I have no doubt that McDavid made things perfectly clear when signing the contract - if the team can't build a winner in the next three years, there won't be a number big enough to make him stay in 2028.

I think it’s probably shorter than that. It’s probably a case of them getting 2 years to get a cup… if not, the trade demand comes in summer 2027. Oilers look at it as a win-win. They get McDavid for two more attempts at a cup and then get to trade him for an absolute haul.
