It's demonstrably not. 2024's crime rate was lower than either 2022 or 2023's. It was also lower than it was pre-pandemic in 2019. And within a historical context, 2024's crime rate was the 8th lowest in the last 50-60 years.

The Crime Severity Index shows a similar trend. 2024 was lower than 2022 or 2023, lower than pre-pandemic, and significantly lower than any point from the late '60s to 2010.

So overall it's higher than it was in the few years post-financial crisis, but that was a likely demographic-related anomaly that was seen in other countries too. The late 2000s and early 2010s represented the lowest population share for the demographic most likely to commit crimes (males in their late teens and 20s). As they became a smaller and smaller share, overall rates dropped. But now that that cohort's population share has rebounded a bit, crime is slightly elevated compared to the low point, but still very low historically.
