No, I’m not defenceless, nor do I think everyone is defenceless, but I have some younger extended family members who take transit regularly. Sometimes later in the evenings. Those people, and people like them are the ones I am concerned for.

Maybe if you were concerned about more than just yourself, you would see how crime has affected other members of society.

I am not even concerned about myself because there is nothing to be concerned about. Your insurance premiums aren’t going up because of petty crime, and you’re not at any appreciable risk of being assaulted by somebody on public transit no matter what time of day you or your loved ones take it. I don’t like the idea of pouring money into “solving” nothing-burger problems of perception over reality. You shod spend less time doom-scrolling negative social media feeds. The world isn’t as scary as Facebook tells you it is.
