I think going for it was the right call as the 49ers were moving the ball up and down the field relatively easy and had plenty of time to kick a winning FG. I don't love the play call but Williams was averaging almost 5 YPC so not far fetched to think they could gain a yard handing it off to him. There's always going to be second guessing if you fail on a 4th and short attempt as things can go wrong on a pass play even if it's a good design.
