You example of SJ may make sense for need, but SJ is not trading Smith. At least not in a trade for Andersson. They would want a very young dman that can grow with the team.
Andersson would need to bring an older centre type.
Or a real project.

Andersson is a top pair D. He is not be an Elite D but he is established as a top pair D.
He is also the best RD available as when you look around the league other teams are not offering guys like Makar or Seider.
But that is why you add a 1st and a winger prospect to the deal.

With Andersson we would be looking at a project center or a player CC is hoping to break out.

There are only 20 RD above Andersson in points in his "bad" season last year. Considering there are 32 teams, that would imply he is a top pair dman. If you look at a different stat like TOI, he was #8 in the league for RD.
You are both valuing him too low because of +/-.
Also, it is lazy to say that a trade can only happen with Parekh, Coronato, and our 1st all going the other way. No team is offering a package that looks like that and Parekh by himself is arguably more valuable than Smith.
