I think the hype will eventually die down but AI isn't going anywhere. In fact, I suspect it will eventually become as ubiquitous as cell phones and the internet (both of which also had skeptics).
In terms of the danger associated with AI, hopefully our governments don't follow the same wait-and-see "what's the worst that could happen" attitude that they had with the internet. There needs to be some very thoughtful, targeted and coordinated governmental guardrails put in place. Unfortunately, with so many bad actors in the world (Russia, NK, China sometimes, US sometimes, etc.) this could prove to be a challenge.
