It's all timing. Draisaitl signed early for no reason and signed before the cap explosion was announced, so he misses out on about $16M-$24M now because of it. Had he signed after the big cap jump was announced he's in the $16-$18M AAV range too.
For McDavid though this means he can't take less than $18M IMO
He's not going to take less than the highest paid in the NHL, and he will have pressure from the union to set the bar. So that will be at least $18M I think.
For the Wild they have no choice. Kaprizov is a top 10 player in the NHL and they couldn't let him walk, he's their teams offense.
He is averaging 99 points per 82 for his career but the issue is he can rarely stay healthy and play a full 82 games.
