The Flames foundation includes their financials on their website. Their total expenses in 2024 were just a little over $500K, nothing compared to the Oilers foundation.
On the one hand, you have to give credit to the generosity of Oiler fans, raising $102 million in 2024. The Flames raised less than $4M. Administering and disbursing over $100 million is an order of magnitude more complex than what the Flames are doing frankly so you have to expect a much higher level of expense. But there needs to be some transparency over how the Oilers foundation is spending that kind of money, that is an absurd amount.
It's also a good reminder that when all these clubs advertise their financial commitment to the community, they generally are talking about their foundations. The clubs themselves don't contribute much to these foundations, in fact they typically charge back things like rent and salary costs. The overwhelming majority of the donations are sourced from fans through 50/50 draws.
