A lot of people look at the players in isolation (J fresh card) and are ready to dump them. This is a team game. If someone like Lomberg helps the others on the roster achieve 5% more then that is a ton of value to a group. Not to mention being a mentor to younger players.
Also, the guy is an animal and exciting to watch out there.

I get that he's well liked. Not a very good hockey player though. Not sure he contributes a 5% bump either. It would kind of be like extending McGrattan a year early just cause the players like him. Nothing wrong with signing him half way into the season if he's still in the line-up.
