$20 for 454g is around 35-40 servings if you're doing 12-15g per cup, it's around $0.60. Get a discount and per serving $15 for 454g brings it down to around $0.40 per cup.

Comparatively, $2 cup of Timmies, you're entering the realm of "very expensive beans". ie: assume $50 for 250g, assume 15-20 servings at the 12-15g rate and it's like $2.50 - $3.25 per cup.

I drink black tea in the afternoon. Compared to coffee beans, it's cheaper, but not remotely close in caffeine kick by price. For that, you're doing caffeine pills like Sliver. It's a different enjoyment than coffee though.

A 357g cake of Chinese black tea of a specific age used to cost <$10 maybe 5 years ago. Same ones are now around $22-26. A 357g cake probably is around 70-100 servings. It's about $0.20-0.30 per cup which is around half the cost of a $15-20 454g in coffee per serving.

Raw black tea still goes for around $10-16 for 357g, but it's not as tasty. It's good stuff for keeping to age. However, you can use as a filler as a blend of aged and raw black tea.

Other premium stuff like 100g of Darjeeling might go for around $10 for 40-50 cups. That's approx $0.20-0.25 per cup. First flush Darjeeling is 2x that price.

Earl Grey and basic orange pekoe I think can be found for around $5/100g range, Lady Grey in the Darjeeling range. Premium pekoes like a bukit cheeding or palas can be around $20-30/100g range also tasty. Oolong ranges between $5-15/100g.
But realistically it’s only a few cents more.

Sounds crazy when it’s “2-3x more!!” but we’re talking like 5 cents.
