Yeah the circumstance vs state of mind thing bothered me for many years until I stumbled upon something and realized they could be separated.
Ignoring or bypassing circumstance to focus on state of mind helped to solve a bunch of weird contradictions I personally ran into when I first started considering these philosophical concepts. Otherwise for me, I feel like sooner or later, Nihilism would prevail.
