Just four months ago, progressive voices were a pillar of FSU’s multicultural and diverse community. Now, their presence on campus is being alienated.
Right-wing organizations on FSU’s campus continue to invite conservative speakers, while the university struggles to address the concerns of progressive groups without facing fervent protest.

Allowing controversial speakers to participate in university-sanctioned events sends a clear message. In this context, giving a platform to figures who openly oppose these views only serves to further isolate those who hold opposing views.

Charlie Kirk’s recent invitation to FSU’s campus by Turning Point USA at FSU is particularly distasteful following the now-repealed mandate from University Housing that eliminated LGBTQ+ housing options. This policy allows LGBTQ+ students to live together if they choose to, providing safety and community.
Kirk, however, has been anything but silent about his hatred for transgender individuals.
“Deep down, everybody knows that trans people are mentally unwell, ” Kirk said in a recent Instagram post.

In an even more recent radio show appearance, Kirk doubled down on this harmful rhetoric, arguing that “they are creepy people,” and adding “they should be fired from their job, and there should be a position that if you are trans, you can’t serve in the intel agencies.”

He isn't calling for their deaths here, but it's pretty ugly stuff to send to your followers. He says they are mentally ill. So if all his followers believe all trans people are mentally ill, what kind of stigma does that inflict on them as human beings? And people don't think this is hate speech?
