I think it is going to be really interesting to watch McDavid's play in the first half of the season. For the last couple years, he has coasted for the first 20 or 30, saving himself for the playoffs. But this is a contract year - does he go all out from day 1, or does he continue the 'it's all about the playoffs' strategy? Keep in mind they have gone to the cup finals 2 years in a row, so starting the season at top gear seems very unlikely.
If he and especially the Oilers get off to a slow start, the media will turn this into a circus extraordinaire! Which of course will exacerbate things 10-fold.
It has the makings of being absolutely glorious!
