It takes about 300 NHL games for a defenseman at the NHL level to figure things out. Don't take my word for it, that's what D. Sutter used to say, and Bahl has 221 games. That's why I actually expect him to tighten things up defensively, so he'll be a significantly better D in 2 years.

Now, as for Sharangovich, it really depends on which guy you're getting. I thought he looked really dangerous a year ago, and in camp last year until he got hurt. He and Coleman were amazing shorthanded. He was also one of the top scorers towards the end of the season. Moreover, he was money in the shootout a year ago when he had his confidence. If he can get back to being a 25 goal 50 point threat, then it's at least an average value.
Certainly part of the game is you have to be right on these more often than you are wrong. But even with those deals, if you are wrong, you are probably wrong by 2M max. It's not crippling.
You have to avoid the deals where you are VERY wrong.
James Neal.
Troy Brouwer
Jonathan Huberdeau

Those are REALLY wrong. And you have to avoid those particularly in contention windows where the cap has to be utilized optimally.
