I needed more storage in my 50s bungalow. Not having a mud room really stinks so I set out to build something that would help with this issue.
I came up with this.
Everything is solid ash timber. The interior of the window seat is natural color while the doors are all ebonized. I took the time to grain match the doors. It’s a subtle detail that will only be visible during certain times of the day. Looking at it normally the handles and grain disappear completely due to the light from the large window but once a side light hits the unit the grain immediately becomes visible giving the space a very dynamic look.
This was my spring project and took me around 5 months to complete. Everything was built from scratch in my shop.
