Also, quick edit. Yeah, you can sign up for a fixed rate, and pay the same no matter the demand, but that is through your retailer (ATCO, Enmax, etc). But the pool price, what you would get on a floating rate plan, does vary hour over hour.
Since we don't have smart meters you'll pay the average pool price for the month times the total electricity used over the month. No incentive to move your usage around whether you're variable or fixed.
