I've never tried to book a flight like that, is that something that you'd book all together (i.e. get to Spain, then flight from Spain to London, then flight from London home)?
Or do you book the overseas flight and then book a separate one way flight?

If it were me, I'd check kayak to see what prices are like, but I'd probably end up booking WJ to Barcelona, some random low cost carrier from wherever I end up in Spain to London (but only to Heathrow or Gatwick as they're much easier to get into the city), then WJ London to Calgary. I often book flights separately as WJ doesn't put all destinations on sale at the same time.
I've also noticed AC isn't great to get to Europe from YYC anymore. It's quite expensive, and the other European options take you to central europe.
