As for the last comments, I don't understand them. What do you think the historic approach has been. The Flames are no different than other teams. They grant their younger player chances, and when they do well, they get more chances. And that happens organically and over time.
Maybe not at the pace fans want. But that's a different thing.

Let's do as Monahammer suggests and look at the Flames' history when it comes to utilizing rookie defenders, shall we?
Phaneuf: over 5 minutes of PP time per game
Giordano: 2:42 / game
Brodie: 1:44 / game
Andersson: 1:00 / game
Yes, it is clearly as Monahammer says. The Flames never give rookie defenders time on the powerplay.
