Yeah, but everyone who brings this up, assumes the player wants to play a one year deal in his last season and take a lot of risk in losing out on the one big money long term deal he could sign if he does progress. Say Macho0978 numbers are correct or ball park and the final year's salary is 4.2 million. By that time the cap might be 118 million. Even Matthew Tkachuck didn't elect arbitration himself or just accept his one year 9 million dollar salary and say let me be a UFA in one year. The team took him to arbitration to put pressure on his side to get a longer term deal worked before trading him.
If Zary is sooo good in this next three years that he can Tkachuck the Flames....sign me up! I'd love to be able to have him build himself up to the point that he's worth a Weegar, Huberdeau (pre this contract) and a first.
