I agree. Of course he’s an idiot, but he’s a smart idiot. The fact that he manages to attract the attention of rich, powerful sociopaths says even more about him than we know.
From what I understand Trump has never proposed to disappear people by pushing them out of helicopters over the ocean, but Vance thinks that is just fine. He thinks Franco and Pinochet did the right thing.
If Vance gets in, Miller, Yarvin, Vought, etc. will have even more influence than they do now. Less time spent on ballrooms , banners, demolishing parts of the White House, and more time being insidious.
He may lose the fanatical Trump cultists, but he will gain back the Epstein-file MAGAs. I don’t know how he’ll spin things to the pissed -off farmers, but these authoritarian types always manage to find a way.
Rachel Maddow’s “Ultra” podcast really educated me on so many things. In school we were given the impression (it was a long time ago, of course) that all Americans hated the Nazis; the McCarthy era was just some short-lived anomaly that didn’t concern the average person. We never learned that there were Nazis in our government, never learned about the America First Committee or the Christian Front. All we ever really learned was “Commies, Socialists and Nazis bad”, with no real explanation of what those things actually were beyond the obvious. Watch out for those Commies, but white Nationalists are good? You shouldn’t have to be a history or political science major to learn these things in depth.
That being said, Vance does have the charisma of the dog crap on my shoe. But these guys who sponsor him must see something I don’t, besides his unapologetic authoritarian aspirations. I don’t think he would win the election if he had to run now, but i don’t think he is going to have to.
