I took a drive down to Barbecues Galore to look at what they had -- and they had a lot to choose from -- but now that I've seen them in person, I am really not sure I like any of them. The electric ones just look so artificial and weird.
Is there really a compelling reason to go in one direction over the other, either go with an electric insert or just keep the wood burner? We've already decided we are cladding the fireplace wall itself with a nice big 'f-ck off' piece of stone slab so there will be work done no matter what, but I'd like to do it once and be done with it.

I love the term electric fireplace. It’s a baseboard heater mixed with a picture of fire.
