I've lost track of how many times I've seen Deftones, might be 13 or 14. I traveled to see them in '96 touring the first album, multiple times during Around the Fur so it was a bit strange to see a sold out Saddledome there to see them and loud as hell. Not an old crowd either, I'd say 60% of the room were under 30.
I still love the band and buy every release but to tell the truth the last 4 albums have been rough, ever since Stephen switched to 7 and then 8 string guitars the riffs have become really boring. My biggest worry was how those low register notes and chords would come across in such a big room, not as bad as I thoguht but there were more than a few sections in newer songs that were unintelligible. Chino has had times recently where he's sounded quite bad on stage but he's close to the top of his game now, no gripes there except for his vocal melodies on the recent albums, he has one approach and pattern and can't seem to break away from it.
