I think it comes down to a few things
- There are very few team sports for women that allow full on contract (lacrosse?) The Laws in Rugby are the same for men and women. IT is a full contact violent sport. There for Rugby attracts a lot of those women. Men have lots of options for full contact team sports
- Pathway, the female University Rugby is Varsity. There is a very well defined pathway from your Uni team to the National Set up. The Universities scout Provincial Teams (U19/18). This doesn't happen as much in the men's game.
- Opportunity, because the women's player base is small world wide vs men, there are lots of opportunity for overseas contracts. While not as lucrative as the men's contracts the Canadian women are sought after in the pro leagues especially France & England. Hell my club as 6? maybe only 5 on Pro contracts overseas.
