On a related topic to kids, has anyone heard any recent updates on the teachers contract negotiations and potential strike action? Are they coming back to school next month or is it trending towards a strike?

Strike. The government hasn't made any real efforts to avoid the strike and they will likely let it happen and then try and blame the teachers for the impacts to parent's lives.
The teachers will probably start the school year, let everyone get a little familiar with their new rooms and teachers so that kids will know where to go when the strike ends, and then call the strike. I believe the rules of their vote to strike is that they have 6 months to start the strike after the union voted (mid October is the deadline to start).
