Rossi signed for 3 years, meaning he can take the Tkachuk route, and walk himself to UFA by accepting the qualifying offer of $6M at the end of his 3 year contract. That's the cost to Minny in not going long term with Rossi, much like it cost Treliving with Tkachuk.
If Zary signs a 2-year deal, he'll be able to become a UFA by accepting his qualifying offer when it expires.

Foerster just scored 25 goals and has an AAV of 3.75M these next two years.
Quinn just scored 39 points and has an AAV of 3.35M these next two years.
Zary is coming off an injury riddled season where he put up 27 points. He has no basis for "getting more" than any these aforementioned forwards from his own draft class.
