I get why not everyone would have the Flames as a preferred destination but if you're a young center who wants the chance to become a #1C I don't think there's a better market right now. There's no one in the way, if you're as good or better than Kadri I don't think there would be any qualms in getting his ice time.

Not sure for this season. The coaching staff values two-way games in their centres (like all coaching staff) and they have 2 centres that are really solid defensively in Backlund and Frost. While I think players like McTavish and Rossi would be better offensively than those two, I don’t think either would be as good defensively so I think the coaching staff would lean more on them for big minutes. I think it’s a similar issue for Zary - I would really like to see him get a long leash playing centre in one of the top 3 lines this year but I don’t think he would get that spot ahead of Kadri, Frost or Backlund.
If Backlund and/or Kadri are not on the team next year, then I think it would be wide open for any young centers to take some spots. Not saying that’s the best thing to do but it would create opportunities for 1-2 young centers to get significant minutes and opportunities.
