People are often confusing respect with trust.
No, respect is NOT earned. Respect is FREELY given, and if you have anywhere close to decent manners, you give it always unless the you have learned of a particular person or two that you should no longer be giving them respect. It is up to an individual to make people lose respect for them, but otherwise, you walk this earth with respect for everyone.
Trust is earned. Trust shouldn't be freely given.
We live in an upside down world where people walk around with no respect for anyone else, while blindly trusting idiots spreading misinformation.
