I lived in Ottawa for two years, and I didn't hate it. You've got the right idea. Museums are great, Parliament Hill is great. You can walk along the Rideau Canal for a little while and it's pretty nice. Go for lunch at The Manx up on Elgin because it was my favourite spot.
