Even while those teams build their sustainable contenders, they still supplement with whatever player(s) they feel will help them win, regardless of their age.
Marchand to the Panthers to win a cup and now getting a wild 35+ contract to try and win again immediately. They clearly do not care that he is 37 years old.
Kadri is a couple of years younger, plays a more important position, and scores more goals in their respectively aged years. I do not think it is a stretch to assume that Kadri would be desirable on any team trying to win a cup and I believe because he plays C his value is higher.
Centers always go for more than wingers.
