Episode 1 was amazing. Episode 2 was good but focused a bit too much on the gore elements. I would have liked it better if they had made the Xenomorph more of a stalking and mysterious force, instead of just a crazed animal ripping everyone apart. I think they missed out on the potential to have episode 2 be true horror. It would also have been better if some of the soldiers had been able to hit the xenomorph. We didn't see any acid blood.
There's definite call backs to the best 3 Alien movies (Alien, Aliens, and Prometheus). They re-use a lot of the same shots from all 3 movies. I thought that was a good way of adding a nostalgic feeling, instead of just hitting you over the head with references or giving you cheesy fan service like they did in the recent Star Wars films.
So far both of the first 2 episodes feel like one long movie. The action is just flowing directly from one scene to the next, as opposed to being split up into "episodes". Both episodes kept my attention at all times though. I could probably sit through a full 8 hour movie of this. It's been that good so far.
Some of the acting seems great. I'm worried the "boy genius" might get a bit over the top. I'm starting to get Jesse Eisenberg Lex Luthor vibes from him.
