The fact that there are still 6 years left on this deal and that it's pretty much buyout proof...it's going to be at the top of this list for another 5 years. Where the Huberdeau contract really carries weight is that he had the poor first season before the Contract started....so it's an 8 year deal...but 9 seasons of that oh shinguard feeling as it was showing after 10 games that this might be a tough pill to swallow.
If the Flames can find some better finishers then I could see Huberdeau being able to get back to a 45-50 assist player. But I think 70 points would be the upper limit for him now.
For me his 1 goal and 5 points in those last 11 games left me discouraged at the end. When you want your big money guys to step up and make a positive difference, I didn't see that out of Huberdeau in those games.
We can make excuses about how it's not hurting planning...but when you plan to suck...it's a lot easier than when you plan to win. So Dallas and Edmonton who have won playoff series and have cup aspirations...that's a bit different boat then where the Flames are. I don't think Edmonton would do a Huberdeau for Nurse deal straight up.
