IMO there's a difference in being a boy scout where you aim to be ready for as many situations as you can vs doing something where it almost seems like you're looking/hoping for trouble which seems to be a distinction for a mall ninja. That's the primary issue that bothered me when I started looking into what a mall ninja is defined as. An enthusiast tinkers around with the stuff they think are cool, might have fun with it, but not necessarily seeming to wish/hope for a chance to use it in a combat scenario.

There's a phrase I love in general which is, "Someone who knows enough to be dangerous, and not enough to be helpful." That is my own addition to identifying what is categorically a mall ninja to me. This is further different than someone like me or others who are enthusiastic about EDC knives or lighters. We aren't running around thinking we'd ever use it in some type of combat scenario, thus more hobbyists/enthusiasts and firebugs than mall ninja.

I honestly believe that you and Sliver are closer to enthusiasts/hobbyist that a mall ninja. I think Sliver is selling himself a little short by calling himself a mall ninja.
