It's an interesting time my kid was drafted to the Q last year later round pick and a early 2nd round pick in the JR A draft
Growing up around the Q that was always his goal so he wasn't concerned about NCAA and last year he played 3 preseason games knowing he would lose his eligibility before the change. He was fine with playing either in the Q or Jr A and then Usports.
He is headed off to camp next week and the team has signed a bunch of US kids Most of these US kids already have NCAA commitments for next year so likely one and done. and this certainly may effect his opportunity to make the team this year but a few kids have left and gone to NCAA opening some spots.
The other side of the coin though is that now that the US is open to him and that he is an excellent student those opportunities are opening up to him going the other way. He is being recruited by a few of the Ivy league schools and we are working down the path to picking one of those.
It's an interesting time for sure and ultimately more choice for the kids is always a good thing.
