I don't think he was a cap dump, but I also don't think that he added much value to the deal, probably something around a 3rd.
As far as what to do with Farabee, I don't think the Flames could get anything for him right now, but with the raising cap I also don't see him as a negative asset at this point. IMO if he has a successful season then he would be worth around a 2nd round pick in return. If he doesn't then you could still probably trade him because there's plenty of cap-space, and he's young enough that teams would want to take a chance on a 1-2 year contract.
