Your Ted talk sucks.
You may have had a point 10-15 years ago when people made the same argument, except it was actually valid then. That was back before we had a such a variety of viewing platforms and creators. Nowadays any cinematic itch you have can be scratched in multiple ways. Another lame superhero movie doesn't mean something I want to watch isn't getting made, like happened back then. A few months ago I watched Flow, made on open source software from a director in Latvia. It was great. Marvel Mega Action Smash Hit being made didn't mean Flow wasn't.
I don't even like Tom Cruise much, or sequels, but Top Gun 2 was fine. It was made for entertainment, people were entertained. Job done.
You seem shocked or disappointed people make horrible entertainment choices. Like, ya, people spend 8 hours a day watching Tic Tok. People are dumb. They voted Donald Trump, and you expect the vapid mass of humanity to guide entertainment direction? Why?
And yes, reviewers are bought and paid shills, welcome to 2025. This isn't limited to movies. So, uh, stop looking to them? That's a "you" issue.
Stop worrying about this stuff, people have always watched junk and continue to. But with all the ways films can be made today, it doesn't matter.
