The frustrating thing is that Andersson is the right player at the wrong time. If he were even a couple of years younger, he would be worth signing long-term for pretty big money. But he just doesn't fit the timeline.

Weegar, who is already signed with term, is an excellent role model and mentor for young defencemen. The Flames are going to have to develop their own players and instil that compete level in them.

At one time, Andersson was criticized on this very board for his lack of dedication even in the matter of professional-level fitness. Remember when he used to be called ‘Fatmus Sandwichsson’? Some people thought he would never make it because of that. I'm sure out of the team's stock of young D, there are some who can learn the right competitive attitude, just as Andersson did.
