If he's so bad why do the analytics favor him? Honest question.
I didn’t say he was bad, he actually has a good skill level and seems like a character kid. Junior hockey is full of players that don’t get drafted, or don’t make it to the NHL, despite being able to dominate offensively (remember Marty Murray and Gilbert Brule?)-you can get by on skill and smarts in lower leagues, but it gets harder in the pros. I think it’s better to see how impressive his stats were last season in the USHL despite being not fleet of foot, and not very pacey. Imagine what his stats would look like if he was lightning quick? Imagine what he could be in the future if he fixes his speed and pace? Every fifth-rounder has warts….

The average size for an NHL player is 6’1”, and over 200lbs- a player who is 5’10” is considered undersized these days- by scouts, not by me. Not many teams have more than a couple of players under 5'11" in their lineup.

Hopefully he puts in a good summer, as he opted to go to the NCAA this fall, which I was a little shocked by- I figured he would take another season in junior to work out his kinks…
