Bzru had the exact same defensive warts going into last season as Mews has now. He worked hard on them at the beginning of last season and came out a much better player, but there's potential that Mews does the same. I think his NCAA route is intriguing for that reason.
The contract is another reason that Bzru might have slightly more value than Mews today in a trade too.
Finally, I think the window of use is another interesting point. Bzru is ready next season... maybe we want a little bit more runway if we're still building something here.
Ultimately, I think it would be wise to use one of them in a trade in the near term. I have largely favored Brzu for the exact reasons listed here, but I took a few things from camp and the afterwards that made me change my mind:
1. Mews seems very tight with our core prospects. Fit and glue are important.
2. Mews has an almost arrogant level confidence. I think he can back it up though. IMO this is part of that "it" factor.
3. I think he has untapped defensive potential that can be taught. His skating is already superb though.
4. Those legs. Holy moly. Lol.
