Okay, so the thing you have to realize is that back in the day, they didn't have ####ing heirloom tomatoes at the grocery store year round. They had fresh tomatoes in August and that WAS IT. You have some imagined scenario in your head that in the 70s grocery stores there were these tomatoes in February. And those grocery stores didn't sell heirloom tomatoes. You have no idea the rabbit hole that are tomato cultivars, but it was most likely Early Girl and Beefsteak that they sold and that was it.
I ####ing remember when fresh blueberries were available in July and that was that.
