Problem is that I don’t think the flames should be trading for a player like that until they have the other pieces solidified.
More importantly, I would be concerned about trading for Robertson only to have to sign him to a huge contract before seeing the fit (just like Huberdeau) simply to avoid him walking to free agency after a trade. Would love the idea of a 3-team trade with the flames acquiring the picks/prospects from another team that wants Robertson.

100%.
At Center we have zero long term options. Kadri is 34 and could be traded. Backlund is 36 and is on the final year of his contract. Frost has regressed for 2 seasons and is on a 2 year prove it contract.
At D, we have 2 proven top 4 once Andersson is traded. Neither of them stars.
Goalie is a bit scary with a sophomore starter and no plan B, but trust in Wolf. We have some decent options at wing, but no stars and a shortage of RH shots.
We have good prospect depth, but only Parekh projects as a star. We have some D and depth forwards ready to challenge for an NHL spot, but most of our best prospects are likely a few years off.
We are 4+ years from contending. We would be wasting Robertsons prime. Losing our first in a deep draft hurts the rebuild. Plus, the Flames arent giving up big assets and signing a big contract to continue rebuilding. A trade for Robertson would signal a transition we are not ready for.
