 IMO there is a blind spot when it comes to defensive defenders. Bahl may actually be a superior defender to Tanev but he is spending too much time doing just defending when a more efficient defensive D (Tanev, Forsling, Toews) are not only winning pucks in the S zone but starting the transition to offense much more often.
 
 That's what you want from a top pair and middle pair guy. To me, that's not what you will get out of Bahl or Kuzy.

Bahl is also just 25 as of a few weeks ago. Over ten years younger than Tanev, who had yet to become the player you’re talking about 10 years ago. Tanev was caved in 13/14 (his 24y/o season).
Maybe good to take a wait and see before determining what you will or won’t get out of a guy. Defencemen take time.
