For me, Chris Tanev has a skillset that Kuzy or Bahl lack. Tanev is a both a better skater and has a better first pass.
Tanev has the ability to disrupt offensive plays then move the puck up the ice (either by skating it out himself or making a smart pass); Bahl often has to spend his entire shift defending because once he wins a pick he often loses it and has to continue defending.
IMO there is a blind spot when it comes to defensive defenders. Bahl may actually be a superior defender to Tanev but he is spending too much time doing just defending when a more efficient defensive D (Tanev, Forsling, Toews) are not only winning pucks in the S zone but starting the transition to offense much more often.
That's what you want from a top pair and middle pair guy. To me, that's not what you will get out of Bahl or Kuzy.
