I think Conroy did well in the Hanifin trade, but he did well under the circumstances. If Hanifin and his agent weren't working behind the scenes, he should have returned a larger package. A conditional 1st + Conditional 3rd + Miromanov is a disappointing return vs full value of the asset (obviously my opinion), but a decent return given the restrictions that Conroy was operating under.
I don't think there is any reason to complain now. This is just one of the handicaps that many teams have to operate under now (teams that aren't destinations) and a handful of teams get to reap the benefits of (teams that are destinations). So you either have to adjust and trade players 1+ year out, or you take a hit on the return. I think teams will act accordingly depending on where they are in their compete spectrum, at least for assets that are perceived as holding high value. People may not like it, but it is probably what some teams will do moving forward under some circumstances.
