Again having more draft capital provides more flexibility. Picks can be used to trade up in the draft to land more quality, or they can be used to supplement the roster in the future when the young kids have begun establishing themselves. One year cap dumps are completely inconsequential especially when we routinely bring in depth defensemen anyways (Hanley, Barrie, Bean, etc..)
