That is too bad from a trade value perspective. It is also a really weird position to take for Andersson. It would be really hard for a 6 year UFA contract to have as much value as an 8 year extension. He must be banking on being able to sign a good contract as a 35 year old...
$8Mx8 + $3Mx1 at 37 years old
$10M x 6yrs + $6Mx3 at 35 years old
In theory both paths gets him to 38 but he would need a GM to go crazy and throw massive contracts at him because "the cap is going up". He would also need to maintain his play and health enough to get another significant contract at 35. The safer route would be to get the 8 year extension as soon as possible.
