I feel like this time around they are a lot more committed to actually rebuilding, albeit cautiously. They are moving out vets, a little slower than most would like, but at a moderate pace so that they can shelter the kids coming in and wait for them to be a bit more ready and the conveyer belt to start rolling with NHL ready players. The last semi rebuild where we picked top 10 3/4 years worked out well, Tkachuk Bennett and Monahan came in and I am sure that is still in Edwards' mind and was a lesson learned. You've gotta hit the floor and Frost, Sharangovich, Bahl and Farabee are the kind of replacement level placeholder players you get to do that who will still have utility and can slide into depth roles in 3 or 4 years like Staj and Hudler did for that young core. Or they are young enough that you can trade for a couple more picks if someone takes their spots.
I wonder if last year the flames potentially not having their own pick made them slow up a little as well. And now this year they are making decent moves getting rid of Kuzmenko and now Rasmus - second deal is complicated and will take time but seems like it will happen. Only issue I can see right now is not moving Coleman which really should be a priority given where the team is at, his age and his value, I'd rather see Stromgren, Honzek and Suniev battle for that LW spot and be mentored by Backlund for the year with a good defensive center beside them to cover mistakes. Flames will be better off next season never mind the picks or futures coleman could bring in. Kadri you'd have to beg to agree to leave and you only do that and risk pissing him off if the offer is fantastic so he should go next summer with Backlund who I'm guessing might retire. Should have brought the colorado deal to him but that ship has sailed.
