Edwards is worth 3.5 billion. He isn’t even 100% owner of the Flames.
You think the less than 2 million revenue for 2 playoff games is driving him to try and have this franchise in the middle ? If he literally cared about that little extra $$ it would exponentially be in his interest to spend to the floor every year because the Flames attendance doesn’t change enough to offset the saved costs in salary.
The issue is he WANTS to make the playoffs every year and win , and has enough yes men (historically) around him to make him believe they can
It has even been said /insinuated Conroy had to be coached how to interview to get the job . Edwards does not want to hear “we need to start fresh and it will take 5-7 years “
That being said I actually believe Edwards is more on board with a proper(ish) rebuild .
The problem Conroy faces as GM is will he have a job / job security long enough to see it through properly ? Will Edwards remain patient
It does CC no good to set up the next GM for success and be the short term pain GM
That’s what can lead to trying to “rush” the rebuild . If Edwards and Conroy fully trusted each other they could do a proper 5 year rebuild
I’m not sure they do on either side completely yet
