Hamonic was 27, Byram just turned 24. Byram has an injury history that concerns me but he is a much different player than Hamonic. I mean Byram had 17 pts in 30 games before having 9 in 20 during the Avs cup run. He logged almost 20 minutes in those playoffs and in the cup final he logged the most 5 on 5 time of any player on either team. I think he is a 40-50 pt dman when healthy and proved himself at the highest level. I think it’s all about health and team fit with him, but he is far more skilled and more proven than Hamonic was.
Byram is a modern NHL dman, Hamonic was more of a throwback defensive dman who frankly just wasn’t very good at defence when he got to Calgary.
