I never tell people if they should or should not feel.
It seems like you get confused between someone challenging your opinion v. telling them they can't have it.
More than that, optimism is a choice. I find certain posters, are just a constant pattern of negativity. I think that should be challenged particularly in an area like sports that is supposed to be fun.
And I'll be blunt. You are an example of that. You show up from time to time, as you did the last week, and just post a stream of negative posts that don't add to the discussion at all.
I have all the time in the world for people who don't share my opinion, but make an effort to provide an interesting perspective. And this site is blessed with a lot of those people.

I don’t really understand why it’s any of your business why a complete stranger is or is not attached to a hockey team, or what their reasoning is for continuing to follow. Seems like a topic you’re best to just leave on the table unless you have a good idea of who that person is, which makes me question whether your intentions really are just benign curiosity as you claim. Seems more to me like you want the easy ammunition against someone whose opinion you don’t like so others can dogpile on later. But that’s actually not what interests me.
What does interest me is that you apparently have this hit list of people who you follow and claim they add nothing of value, which I would claim comes from a pretty heavy dose of confirmation bias on your part. Not denying that I involve myself in my fair share of negative drive by’s, and not that it’s any of your business but I find just putting my thoughts out there and verbalisimg them helps me process those negative emotions because I’m on the spectrum. And I post sporadically because I am not in good health. Again, not your business but since you insist on bringing it up.
But I also do engage in good faith discussion when I feel engaged by the topic, and I know plenty of people on your little list do as well. Just something to reflect on, you don’t have to understand it or even accept it, but consider that people are complex and it’s not your job to judge them.
