Every situation is unique and many people here were banging the table to trade Andersson last offseason because it was obvious that was the right move.
The team was rebuilding and indicated they weren't looking to contend.
Andersson's next contract was going to be for his 30-37 year old seasons.
Flames already had Weegar locked up long term, Brzustewicz was acquired, and they took Parekh 9th overall.
In order to maximize the return it was clear that trading him with 2 years with 50% retention would have brought back a haul.
But Flames did Flames things and didn't want to sell off more pieces after already moving Markstrom and Mangiapane.
Extension shouldn't even be part of the discussion now, just tell teams he wants to test free agency and sell him to the highest bidder that's happy to take the risk.
Dont play into his hands by being the nice guys and move him to Vegas.
